The G.O.A.L. Support Group

The name of this group is an acronym for "Giving Obsessive-Compulsives Another Lifestyle." Open only to adults who suffer from OCD, the group meets every other Wednesday at 8 PM in the AATC. Its main objective is to assist its members in developing a discipline of self-help. Its atmosphere is one of compassion, not commiseration, and its manner is one of inspiration and encouragement, not coercion. Co-chaired by two recovering OCD sufferers with at least one therapist in attendance, each typical meeting is structured into three parts.

1.

In large-group formation, discussion of some OCD-related topic selected by the Affiliate’s board. Each member present will be given an opportunity to share feelings and thoughts on this topic and may elect not to speak if he or she so wishes.

2.

In small-group formation, goal planning. Led by a recovering obsessive-compulsive, each small group will help each of its members formulate a specific and concrete goal whose accomplishment in the interval before the next support-group meeting will advance the member in the attempt to recover his or her life from obsessive-compulsive behavior. The taking on of this goal is voluntary.

3.

Socializing with refreshments.

At times this structure will be replaced by a presentation from a professional guest speaker followed by a question-and-answer session and socializing with refreshments.

If you think you have OCD and would like to attend the G.O.A.L. meetings, please first contact Dr. Jon Grayson at 610-667-6490.
